Wesleyan's Title III Grant
Activity Narrative: Strengthening Academic Programs And Faculty Development
Activity One focuses on the development of three components:
- Faculty Development
- Development of a CIS major
- Enhancing the Teacher Education Curriculum
Faculty Development
This activity provides for a five year incremental faculty development program that focuses on technology and its potential impact on student learning. The activity includes stipend incentives, mentoring, workshops and conferences, and technical support to develop a new course management system.
Computer Information Systems (CIS) Major
To remain a viable liberal arts college for women, the College must negotiate a balance between maintaining a strong heritage and traditions, while addressing the career aspirations of students and the needs of the workforce in the community. This Activity focuses on developing a new Computer Information Sciences major to meet this need.
Teacher Education Curriculum
The teacher preparation program at Wesleyan accounts for over 11% of all Wesleyan graduates since 1993. This program must be improved to meet mandated state and national guidelines related to increasing teacher technology skills.
Methodology For Faculty And Program Development
The program development process for the three components was designed by the faculty, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and professional staff to ensure similar comprehensive approaches to each component and an orderly system of implementation.
